Developments
We are delighted to confirm that planning approval has been granted for 31 new social homes at North Queen Street. This important milestone, achieved through the commitment of local representatives and our Board, marks real progress in meeting housing need in the Grove area.
While the site presents challenges—including varied ground levels and the need to protect existing trees—once completed, the development will provide high-quality homes for approximately 112 people. This includes four purpose-designed homes for people with physical disabilities. All homes will be allocated to families on the Common Selection Scheme waiting list, supporting improved wellbeing and stability within the community.
We are now moving forward to secure full project approval and private finance. More than £6 million will be invested in the development, with aspirations to obtain additional funding to deliver the homes to energy-efficient Passive House standards, helping to reduce fuel poverty and promote long-term sustainability.
Despite funding cuts across Northern Ireland limiting the number of new social housing starts this year, we continue to actively lobby for increased investment and highlight the urgent need for affordable homes. Working alongside stakeholders, local politicians, and the wider community, we remain committed to creating a thriving, inclusive, and environmentally responsible neighbourhood for the future.
